Small business grants and funding in Barbados (2026)

The short answer: most money for small businesses in Barbados in 2026 comes through regional programmes with deadlines, not a standing government grant you can apply for on any day. For digital work, the one to know is a Caribbean Development Bank project run with the Small Business Association of Barbados, launched on August 19, 2026, which includes grants for selected firms. At home, the state lenders offer loans and training rather than grants, and the March 2026 budget extended a tax credit for spending on digitisation.

The need is plain. In research the Small Business Association published with the Inter-American Development Bank, 78.7% of micro, small and medium-sized businesses said they use social media, but only 21.6% said they have a business website (SBA, May 5, 2026).

We checked every programme below against its own source on October 26, 2026, and each carries its source's date. We call a programme open only where a dated source says so. Programmes change, so read the source before you plan around any of them; the list is at the end.

Which grants can a small business in Barbados look to in 2026?

Reengineering MSMEs for Growth (CDB and the SBA)

The Caribbean Development Bank and the Small Business Association of Barbados launched this project in Barbados on August 19, 2026. It will support at least 150 micro, small and medium-sized businesses in Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Firms assess their digital maturity, adopt digital tools and carry out a transformation plan, and selected firms get grant support to carry the plan out (CDB, August 20, 2026).

A press release about the project says it will make 15 matching grants across the five countries that do not have to be repaid, each covering up to 90% of eligible costs to a maximum of US$15,000, with priority for businesses led by women (St Vincent Times, October 14, 2026). CDB's own release does not give those figures.

Neither source says how a business in Barbados joins, gives a Barbados deadline, or says you must be an SBA member. If you want to take part, ask the SBA now rather than wait for a notice.

CDB PROPEL

CDB PROPEL is the Caribbean Development Bank's technical assistance programme for small businesses, formerly the Caribbean Technological Consultancy Services (CTCS) Network. The bank relaunched it under the new name in 2026, set aside US$5 million for small business technical assistance from 2025 to 2028, and said it will fund work through competitive calls for proposals (CDB, July 8, 2026).

The call open now, Institutional Strengthening for MSME Development, is for registered organisations such as business support groups and associations, not for individual businesses. The programme page gives two deadlines, November 6 and November 16, 2026, so check the call document (CDB, read October 26, 2026). If you belong to an association, ask whether it is applying.

Caribbean Export: the BRIDGE digital grant (closed)

Caribbean Export's Digital Transformation call under its BRIDGE facility, funded by the European Union, closed on December 2, 2025. It paid up to EUR 50,000, at most 60% of eligible costs, towards projects of EUR 80,000 to 100,000, so the business paid at least 40%. Applicants needed two years of trading backed by financial statements, a company bank account, and exports or a credible plan to export. It covered e-commerce and digital marketing, process automation, cybersecurity, digital products and staff training (Caribbean Export, September 24, 2025).

We found no date for a next round, so watch Caribbean Export's opportunities page. Note the size: a EUR 80,000 project is far larger than a small business website, so this kind of grant suits firms that export or plan to.

Caribbean Export: the e-commerce accelerator (closed)

The Virtual E-Commerce Accelerator Programme trains registered small businesses across CARIFORUM, with products suited to selling abroad, to launch and grow online stores on Shopify or eBay, including cross-border payments and delivery. The 2026 intake closed on October 8, 2026. Its second stage, a 16-week store launch bootcamp for two groups of 120 businesses, starts in January 2027 (Caribbean Export, August 28, 2026). It is training, not a cash grant.

Loans, guarantees and tax credits at home

FundAccess

FundAccess, the Barbados Agency for Micro Enterprise Development, lends to micro and small businesses. Its website lists five loan products, from start-up loans for businesses in their first year to larger loans for manufacturing, tourism, technology and professional firms, with training and technical assistance alongside (FundAccess, figures as at December 31, 2025).

In November 2025 Senator Lisa Cummins said FundAccess and Trust Loans would be overhauled in 2026, with longer loan terms and mentoring paired with the money (Barbados Today, November 5, 2025). We found no published new terms by October 26, 2026, so ask what applies today.

Loan guarantees

If a lender wants more security than you can offer, ask whether the loan can carry a guarantee from the Enhanced Credit Guarantee Fund. The Central Bank of Barbados runs it: it guarantees up to 80% of a loan, up to US$1 million for up to ten years, on loans from participating lenders (Central Bank of Barbados, December 13, 2024). In July 2025 the Inter-American Development Bank lent Barbados US$50 million for more of these guarantees, covering up to 80% of a loan to a maximum of US$1 million, including loans for new technology (Trinidad Guardian, July 29, 2025).

The digitisation tax credit

The budget of March 16, 2026 included an "extension of 100% tax credit for business digitization through 2027" (KPMG, March 18, 2026). A tax credit is not cash up front, and the details matter, so ask your accountant how it applies to your spending before you count on it.

Other names you will hear

We could not find a current, dated statement of grants from BIDC, which now trades as Export Barbados, or of loan terms from the Barbados Youth Business Trust, so we have not described them here. Both are worth a call.

How do you prepare an application?

The programmes above differ, but each asks in some form for the same three things. Have them ready before a call opens, so a deadline does not catch you out.

A digital plan

Say what is wrong today and what you will change, in plain words. "Customers cannot book online, so every booking is a phone call" is a problem a funder can judge; "improve our digital presence" is not. Start from where you stand: how your website, Google listing, bookings, payments, reviews and records work today.

A costed budget

List each piece of work with its price, who will do it, and when it gets paid. Use written quotes, not guesses. Most grants pay part of the cost, so show your own share as well: the BRIDGE grant paid at most 60%, and the matching grants in the CDB project up to 90%.

Outcomes to measure

Choose a few numbers you can count today and again later: online bookings or orders a month, the share of payments taken online, the number of Google reviews, the share of enquiries answered within one business day. Write down today's figure for each. A funder wants to see what changed, and you can only show that if you counted first.

Where a Digital Health Check fits

Our Digital Health Check puts all three on paper. It scores how your business shows up and works online, out of 100, across six areas. The fix plan prices each fix, gives the total with a payment schedule, and lists the outcomes to measure with today's figures. It is free for Small Business Association members, and we check again 90 days after a fix goes live, so you have before and after figures for a grant report.

We do not run any of these programmes and cannot promise you a grant. What we can give you is a plan that is ready when a call opens.
